Providence, RI

September 21, 2011

Did you know that Providence is on the commuter rail? So for $15.50 round trip, you can visit this delightful city/town for the day, or if you’re fortunate to have a friend at Brown or from Rhode Island, stay for a weekend. I caught a 10AM train last Saturday, which was surprisingly crowded for a Saturday morning, to drop in on a friend of my brother’s who is starting her first year at Brown and to spend time with Cecilia on her own turf. It was a great weekend experience.

Ok, I'm more impressed by this State House than the one with the Gold Dome

Cecilia sweet-talked our way in

Anchor away!

The orbs are for fire

Brown seemed like a cheerful, friendly place

Pericles? I don't think we figured out who this guy is...

What are they doing down there?

Oh, it's a catapult. I think a UChicago response might be: "Been there, Scav'ed that."

Fun tidbit: Brown University Police are the “Bro-Po” whereas Providence Police are the “Pro-Po.” Didn’t see any Ultimate happening but my brother’s friend assured me she had played plenty of it in the past two days alone.

I recommend making the day trip, walk around, do some shopping, some eating, and enjoy the pleasant views.
